Working with others in prisons

Mothers’ Union members are working with other volunteers, in partnership with staff, to ensure children and families visiting prisoners have a positive experience.

The Prison Community Volunteer Group emerged after Mothers’ Union responded to Churches Together, who put out a request to local faith communities, in order to form a band of volunteers to support the families and friends of prisoners.

This mission is all about welcoming our new neighbours at Low Moss and extending the hand of friendship. It has been designed to be a community facing prison and there will be people from the local community both working and serving sentences in it

The prison Community Volunteer Group now consists of around 50 members, who help staff the prison Servery, and assisting young children who visit the prison with their homework.
