Emergency wash bags (adults)

Since 2012 Mothers' Union in Wakefield have provided over 1200 emergency toiletry bags for the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) for people admitted to hospital at short notice.

A small zip top plastic bag is filled with: comb, soap, flannel, toothpaste, toothbrush and a small plastic bag for wet items*. The pack is labeled "Caring for you" and also carries an insert with infromation about Mothers' Union. Hospital staff tell us that for 'patients having their own toiletries goes a long way in maintaining dignitiy and improving the patient experience.'

A Mothers' Union member was buying so many tubes of toothpaste at the local supermarket that the assistant asked what they were for. When told about the Toiletry packs project, the assistant said "Oh I was given one of those recently when I was admitted to hospital after a road traffic accident and my family could not get in to bring my things. There was a message with it - a lovely gesture".

*Please note that all toiletries need to be new/sealed; handmade items should not be included!
